With skiing between 1700 and 2200 meters it offers some of Austria's most snow sure skiing (ref.www.obertaurn.at), whilst also benefiting from over 200 days of sunshine a year.

In winter there is the choice between the ski regions of Kreischberg (10 minutes) and Turracher Hoehe (20 minutes), providing 70km of pistes to explore.  This includes 9 chairlifts, 14 draglifts, 2 cable cars, snow park, half-pipe, multi-lingual ski instructors (children can ski from 4 years old), and 25km of cross country ski tracks. There are also toboggan runs, curling and night skiing on offer.

We recommend the Murtal Ski pass that gives access to seven of the local mountains for one price.  This ticket includes access to the local mountains at Kreischberg and for a €6 supplement Turracher Hoehe.  A 6 day ticket costs as little as €166 for adults and €88 for children, shorter term tickets are available for a reduced cost.  Please see http://skiberge.at/ for full details.

For those who don't wish to ski, it is possible to use the ski lifts as a foot passenger only at a reduced cost.  There are several on mountain lodges from where you can enjoy a drink and take in the action.

Ski and Snowboard hire is available locally at the well equiped Suli's where skis & boots can be hired from €105 and snowboard and boots from €123 for 6 days. Please visit http://www.suli.at/ for more details.

There are a number of ski schools operating on the mountain and we recommendm 'Kreischberg ski school'.  A private 1-hour lesson costs €32.  Discounts are available for groups or multi-lesson bookings.  Full details are available on www.schischule-kreischberg.at.

Tubing, trampolining or even the Yabbaa-Dabba-Doo-Land at Kreischberg are also available for the young/young at heart.

A little further away are the ski regions of Obertauern and Bad Kleinkirchheim, offering an additional 120km of ski slopes each.  Both command an international reputation of being amongst the finest skiing destinations in Europe.

To ease those aching muscles (apart from using the sauna at the chalet!) there are spa facilities available locally.

Guests of Chalet Alpenrose are entitled to a 10% reduction at a number of local facilities, including the ski lifts.  Full details are available in the welcome pack.
